UN Ocean Decade - A predicted ocean laboratory Sept 2021

UN Ocean Decade Laboratory: A Predicted Ocean

A predicted ocean where society understands and can respond to changing ocean conditions

The overall goal of the core event during the keynote section is to discuss high-level perspectives on various themes of “A Predicted Ocean” and address the need, outcome to humanity and the ocean, a vision for 2030 and beyond and critical infrastructure / funding / support / coordination needed to achieve the goal. The roundtables will then address how these aspects discussed during the keynote section will be addressed through endorsed programmes of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade).

The second session of the event, entitled “from observations to predictions” will explore how can we work toward implementing the concept of an integrated global observing system serving many users – including with local enhancements down to the coastal level. The international panel of speakers includes Pierre Bahurel, the CEO of Mercator Ocean International, on the development and maintenance of modelling & data assimilation infrastructure.
