The International Weather and Climate Forum celebrates its 20th anniversary

From October 6 to 8, 2023, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie” in Paris will host the 20th edition of the International Weather and Climate Forum (FIM). As partner of this event, Mercator Ocean International, implementer of the Copernicus Marine Service, will be taking part in the Media Workshop on October 7, 2023. 

 

Organized as part of the “Fête de la Science”, this anniversary edition will feature a variety of interactive activities, engaging experiments, discovery games, digital or commented exhibitions, immersive workshops, an international scientific symposium and a media workshop. The main objective is to encourage exchanges with representatives of the ecological transition and researchers, so that everyone can take act in favor of the climate. 

On Friday 6 and Saturday 7 October, the theme of the Media Workshop will be addressed International communication on climate change in the media.

  • The October 6 event is particularly aimed at socio-economic and regional representatives, scientists, weather presenters, journalists, and representatives of think tanks, NGOs and professional associations. This workshop is being organised by a scientific committee chaired by Valérie MASSON-DELMOTTE, Director of Research at CEA-LSCE-IPSL and Co-Chair of IPCC Group I for the 6th Assessment Report. The presentation will be in hybrid format.
  • The event on 7 October will be opened by Jean JOUZEL, President of Météo et Climat. The “Communicating climate change” workshop is dedicated to international journalists, meteorologists and weather presenters. Mercator Ocean representatives will be taking part in session 2 “How to use Copernicus Marine Service and Mercator Ocean data and tools” and will be presenting the Copernicus Marine Service tools that can contribute to more effective communication on climate change. Among the tools presented, particular attention will be paid to the myOcean Pro visualisation tool, the Marine Heatwave Bulletin and the Ocean Monitoring Indicators (OMIs).
