Mercator Ocean International (MOi) has been invited to take part in the OECD Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology Policy to be held at the OECD in Paris on 23 and 24 April 2024, organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
Context
A science, technology and innovation policy agenda will be presented to ministers and other high-level representatives from OECD member countries, invited non-member countries and international organisations. The aim of this meeting is to enable ministers to exchange views and establish the strategic orientations of the Committee for Science and Technology Policy (CSTP) in order to combat climate change and work towards a more responsible science. In addition to adopting a declaration with a pragmatic aim, this ministerial meeting of the CPST will serve to:
– highlight the role of science, technology and innovation in other policy areas and encourage interministerial and cross-sectoral collaboration for greater sustainability.
– define a roadmap for the OECD’s future work on science, technology and innovation.
Agenda
Faced with the consequences of climate change and the various “calls to action” from government, business and civil society, a reform of science, technology and innovation policies is underway. The OECD, through the work of the CPST, is developing this new programme.

As part of the high-level multi-stakeholder dialogue and on the first day of the Ministerial Meeting, a plenary session on science and technology policies will be held, followed by parallel sessions. One of the sessions will be dedicated to the ocean: “The ocean we want by 2030: the role of ocean observation data for research, growth and well-being”.
Pierre Bahurel, Director General of Mercator Ocean International, will be taking part in Workshop B1 on “Protecting the future with science and technology”.

The Ocean stands
MOi will also have a stand in the OECD hall. Drawing on Ifremer’s global network of in situ data made up of 4,000 operational floats and other satellite data, MOi develops complex ocean simulation systems (numerical models) based on ocean observation data at any time, at the surface or at depth, on a global scale or for a specific area, in real time or delayed.
