Mercator Ocean International is hosting a Digital Ocean Forum in Paris on the 20th to 21st of April, 2022. The High Level session on the 21st of April will be open for anyone to join through Zoom from 9:00am to 1:00pm CET.
Under the auspices of the European Commission and the French Ministry of the Sea, Mercator Ocean International organises the first “Digital Ocean Forum” in the frame of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Digital Ocean Forum 2022 is organized as a response to the EU Mission “Restore our Oceans and Seas by 2030” and to the call made at the One Ocean Summit on 11 February 2022 in Brest (France) towards the construction of the European Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) based on European Assets such as Copernicus and EMODnet.
Mercator Ocean International takes the lead in federating the European communities concerned, for building a European DTO based on French and European innovations and in coordination with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences. The European Commission (ie. DG RTD, DG MARE, DG DEFIS, DG CNECT and JRC) and the French Minister of the Sea support the organization of the Digital Ocean Forum for addressing a key objective of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”. The objective of this event is to provide the most complete, comprehensive and consistent responses possible, leading to the co-design of European Open & Public Digital Twin of the Ocean built on European existing assets and innovation.
To achieve such objective, five Working Groups (WG) have been created. Each WG is led by a chairperson together with a European Commission representative and a Mercator Ocean International (MOi) coordinator and gather the point of view and related experts. Sumarised outcomes for each WG will be presented on April 21, along with high level presentations showcasing the European context and future perspectives.
