European Ocean Days 2025

The European Ocean Days 2025 have officially started in Brussels! This key event gathers experts and policymakers to discuss major maritime topics, from the sustainable blue economy to EU Ocean policy frameworks. This year, the event plays a crucial role in shaping the European Commission’s upcoming Ocean Pact.

Mercator Ocean International will be at the forefront of discussions on the digital transformation of Ocean knowledge.

  • Tuesday, March 4 (14:45 – 15:15) : Alain Arnaud, Head of Digital Ocean Service, is hosting a keynote about the European Digital Twin of the Ocean (EDITO) at the Forum of the Mission Ocean “Restore our Ocean and Waters”

Alongside experts such as Lara Veylit (Sintef Ocean), Baris Salihoglu (ODTÜ, Turkey), and Mauro Facchini (European Commission), Alain Arnaud will explore how the European DTO will impact Ocean stakeholders and citizens alike.

  • Friday, March 7 (11:45 – 12:30): Marina Tonani is taking part in the panel “EU DTO: Integrating Marine Knowledge for a Sustainable and Competitive Europe”.

By combining data from satellites and in-situ sensors, the EDITO – European Digital Twin Ocean provides real-time information on ocean conditions, can forecast future ocean dynamics, and develop simulations of potential scenarios. How will this pioneering tool impact ocean stakeholders and citizens? These questions will be central to the discussions.
