International Digital Twins of the Ocean Summit 2023

The Digital Twins of the Ocean (DITTO) programme will hold its second International Digital Twins of the Ocean Summit on November 9 – 12, 2023 in Xiamen, China. In conjunction with the 2023 World Ocean Week, the Summit will enable sharing of the latest advances on Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs) and discussion of future joint actions.

The UN-endorsed Digital Twins of the Ocean (DITTO) program started in 2021 with the goal of using digital twins to support ocean protection, governance, and a sustainable Blue Economy. DITTO aims to develop a shared understanding of DTOs, establish best practices, and create a digital framework to empower ocean professionals worldwide, including scientific users, in effectively building their digital twins.

DITTO hosted its inaugural International Summit in London in 2022. The second DITTO Summit, organised by the Fujian Ocean Innovation Centre and State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University), will feature interconnected sessions on advancing DTO architectures and interoperability, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning for predictive engines, facilitating sharing and visualisation of DTO information, and highlighting the capabilities of existing DTOs.

Mercator Ocean International was mandated by the IOC-UNESCO to lead the OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Centre in the context of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. As part of this framework, the DITTO programme is primarily endorsed to the OceanPrediction DCC. In this context, MOi’s Enrique Alvarez Fanjul – OceanPrediction DCC Technical Coordinator – will be co-chairing a session about “Data Analytics & Model Prediction Engines” at the 2023 DITTO Summit.

Call for abstracts for the International DITTO Summit are open until July 31st.
