Mercator Ocean International will participate in the The Living Planet Symposium 2022 (LPS22) taking place at the World Conference Center, in Bonn, Germany on 23–27 May 2022.
Living Planet Symposia organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) are amongst the biggest Earth observation (EO) conferences in the. The gathered information about planet Earth’s physical, chemical and biological system via remote sensing technologies are essential to monitor and assess the status of the planet and the effects of climate change on it.
Mercator Ocean International, as the implementor of the Copernicus Marine Service (marine component of the Copernicus Programme of the European Union) will be present at LPS22 with two presentations, one on the Copernicus Marine Service and the second one on the Digital Twin of The Ocean.

Pierre-Yves Le Traon will present ‘The Copernicus Marine Service : achievements and future plans’ within the sub-session E5.04.1 The Copernicus Programme – Looking Back, Going Forward (II) Copernicus Services Status Update.
The E5.04.1 sub-session as a part of the session E.5 European and International Relation will give an overview of Copernicus Space Component, In-situ Components, Copernicus Services and evolving User Requirements. It will feature the key Copernicus Services and their progress to date. The session will be moderated by Simon Lorenz Gabriel Jutz (ESA) and Mauro Facchini (European Commission DG DEFIS).
The presentation by Pierre-Yves Le Traon will be held on Tuesday 24th of May 2022 at 04:25 PM in the Bangkok Room.

The second talk ‘Digital Twin of the Ocean: Ocean2 – Open Pilot for a European Operational Service’ (authors: Alain Arnaud, Mercator Ocean International, France | Jan-Bart Calewaert, SeaScape, Belgium | Andre Oliveira, Colab Atlantic, Portugal | Francisco Hernández, VLIZ, Belgium | Bertrand Chapron, IFREMER, France) will be given within the sub-session C2.01.1 Towards a Digital Twin of the Earth – advances and challenges ahead.
The C2.01.1 sub-session is part of C.2 Digital Twin session. It aims to gather experts on Digital Twin components in order to showcase the latest developments, present and future challenges, as well as ideas in moving forward with this ambitious endeavour. The session will be moderated by Claudia Vitolo (ESA) and Irina Sandu (European Center of Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF).
The talk by Alain Arnaud will take place on Thursday 26th of May 2022 at 02:30 PM in the Garden Room.
