In a recent interview with Franceinfo, Angélique Melet, oceanographer at Mercator Ocean International, challenged the misleading claims made by YouTuber Ismaïl Ouslimani, also known as the Raptor, regarding sea level rise. Contrary to the video maker’s statements, which downplay the phenomenon by calling it “cyclical,” Angélique Melet explains that current sea level rise is happening very quickly and cannot be directly compared to other periods. She mentions high-emissions scientific projections that predict a probable rise of 80 cm by 2100, and in a worse scenario, up to two meters provoked by strong ice melt.
